Stokksnes and Vestrahorn

Stokksnes and Vestrahorn are must-sees in East Iceland, especially if you’re looking to soak up some of the country’s most dramatic landscapes.

A quick drive from the town of Höfn, Vestrahorn mountain stands with its sharp, jagged peaks, which have earned it the nickname ’Batman Mountain’. If you’re into photography, it’s a dream location, with the golden hour and midnight sun casting a perfect glow across the black sand dunes.

As you wander through Stokksnes, you’ll stumble upon the Viking Village, a film set designed to recreate an old Icelandic settlement. There’s even a Viking Café, where you can warm up with a drink or grab a snack before heading back out to explore.

While in the area, make sure to visit the nearby Stokksnes lighthouse, which gives you panoramic views of the coast. There’s even a NATO radar station nearby.

You can roam along the black sand beaches, dotted with dunes, for stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re visiting in summer, you’ll have long daylight hours to explore the area. While winter offers you the magical chance to see the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
